Acers (maples) are vigorous deciduous trees for hedges and screens with attractive foliage in spring and winged seeds in late summer to autumn. Acers are hardy, adaptable and generally free from pests and diseases.
Sycamore (acer platanoides) is a vigorous deciduous tree for screens, hedges or specimen trees. It will grow in most soils, and does well in exposed sites. Sycamores have hanging bunches of greenish flowers, followed by bunches of winged seeds.
Field Maple (acer campestre) is a smaller leaved and slower growing tree, which is more suitable for clipped hedges and field boundary hedges.
